One I personally know how to write in cursive granted it could probably use a little bit of a touch up on it as I am sure most of my fellow 2014 peers will agree with. Also I think think the people who wrote this think our generation is mentally dead so to speak. Honestly does this not irritate you at all when they categorize us under such statements as "Adhesive strips have always been available in varying skin tones." I don't know about you, my fellow peers, but I personally don't think so narrowly.
I don't think that cd-roms have always existed in computers nor do I think children try to make their parents divorce all the time. For that matter I don't know about half that stuff on the list, granted I am not as prone to the video media as most of young adults my age. So I could be an exception to this list I suppose. But even saying that I feel like were being portrayed as childish and naive, which is most definitely not the case for most of us.
Then again I might be missing the entire point to this whole entire "Beloit Mindset" thing. Maybe its suppose to have comical appeal. Certainly some of the things are ridiculous enough to warrant a laugh or two. But it still seems like this mindset is suppose to somehow demean us in some way.
I leave you with that thought in mind my fellow bloggers. I pose to you this question "Are we really as naive as this Beloit Mindset makes us seem???" I await to hear your answers.
p.s. I hope I did a good job writing like a blogger would lol because I sounded kind of pompous if you ask me... but shhhh

ReplyDeleteI agree with you that we are perceived as childish and naive. I think this point is sorta true with how we are the "Me" generation, but not everyone acts this way. I think the list doesn't give us enough credit because people pay more attention than the list thinks. I don't think you sounded pompous so much as heroic.
ReplyDeleteNot pompous at all Tyler lol :) ..but yeah we are seen as naive in this list, but I think a point of it is to open our eyes as well. I mean look at all the information from the past that we have no idea about. Sure this is degrading to our generation, but a lot of it is true.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. They are slamming our class. They think we are lazy and don't try. The children trying to split up parents is stupid. If you tried to split you parents thats terrible. I also agree with the cd roms always been in computers. You had a great blog.
ReplyDeleteI agree with a lot of what you're saying... But I saw the list as more of a comical view. Unfortunately, a lot of it is true though. We've fallen behind on our history, and this was very eye-opening. As for children trying to divorce their parents... I've actually heard a girl say she would love it if they would because then she would have 2 Christmases a year. Coming from a family with divorced parents, I called her an idiot and said she had no idea what she was talking about. But, divorce is a "norm" of our generation unfortunately and people will use it to their advantage... And no, you didn't sound pompous :) haha
ReplyDeleteAll i have to say is we are not that naive! i really didnt like a lot of what this list said.
ReplyDeleteAgreeAgreeAgree!!! I could not agree with you more that list did sound degrading and demeaning and in a way i made me die a little inside while i was reading it. it made me feel like our generation was completely incapable of so many things and it was insulting. I really liked reading your blog, it was very entertaining.
ReplyDeleteThis list is very general and in many aspects, I think in overgeneralizes us. We are not as ignorant and naive as it makes us sound. Your blog points out items on the list which apply to a very select few of the class of 2014, which many of the rest of us do not agree with.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your statements completely. And nicely done voicing your opinion. I like to hear voice and conviction in writing; it makes your opinion and point that much stronger. I hate the stereotype, and I agree that we are not all like that.
ReplyDeleteCompletely AGREE! They are trying to make our class out to be the worst generation to ever live and you did a great job of pointing that out. THANKS for making a point out of it!
ReplyDeleteJust wrote this very nice comment and it didnt save:( darn technology anywho! But the general jist of it was I also agree completely!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, as most of us in other blogs have said that our generation is in fact able to write in cursive. I don't know what the list has on bashing our class but it is very degrading to stereotype us as not even being able to write in a common cursive style!
