Well to get this ball moving right off the back I think twitter is kind of pointless. You will see shortly why I say kind of instead of completely pointless. But to start off I am going to tell you why I think it is pointless rather than not pointless. First off its pointless because all it does for most people is share random events that happened to them. Sure they could be interesting, but for the most part are irrelevant and meaningless even to the person who wrote it. They write for the most part just because its there. Secondly I find it pointless because is it really necessary to share your everyday life with anyone and everyone who happens to read your mini blog post. At least with an actual blog post they are long enough and in depth enough for a better understanding. A few words may be able to change the world, but a few words could also lead to a poorer understanding of what was actually meant. How many people get angry at someone for something they have tweeted about merely because they didn't fully understand it.
But anyways enough on my rant of why I don't like twitter. I will give some reasons why twitter can be helpful, which are actually kind of closely tied with the reason I think it is pointless. One even though twitter just shares random events of a persons life or random bits of information, sometimes it helps people to express themselves even if in such a miniscule way. Granted I don't fully understand why a person would do this, but never the less just because I don't understand it doesn't mean I should condemn it. And secondly twitter helps some people actually see the real side of a person. You can tell a lot from how your friends or a person replies to your tweet. If they reply with an angry retort to something you said that you hadn't meant to be interpreted that way instead of replying did you really mean it this way could tell you a lot of things about that person. One the person may just be brash and just thinks with their emotions, or two doesn't really care what you meant about it and really isn't that good of a friend. Same goes for people you don't even know. It especially goes for them. If people you don't even know take offense to something you said that you didn't really mean that way should show that they are just out to hurt someone. Or prove that they are better than you.
Anyways I still think twitter is pointless. If you want people to know how you are or what you are doing give them a call if you really think its that important. Same goes for information you want someone to have. The only case you should use twitter is maybe for advertising. Or in some special cases to the people who find the need to express themselves to maintain their sanity so to speak. But this is all I really have to say on the matter of twitter. For those of you who enjoy it I would like it if you told me why you enjoy it. And if you say for the sake of convenience or just because I will not accept those answers.
P.S. I know I say anyways a lot sorry about that. I bid you all adieu and good night. sleep tight. don't let the bed bugs bite... and ect.
Great post Tyler. First, I would like to say that I (sort of) like twitter. I enjoy twitter because it lets you know what's going on in the world around you, and it allows you to send messages to people. Those messages will get seen a lot faster because people tend to link twitter to their cellulars. But that's my opinion.
ReplyDeleteTyler, I agree with you completely on every topic, my dear. I don't like Twitter, and I find value in in-person conversations or perhaps even phone calls. I'd rather hear about what you have to say with your voice and the expression you put with your words. In-person connections have become less significant, and that's really sad. Glad to find someone who feels the same. :)
ReplyDeleteAnother long blog post from Tyler lol. It's all good! I think that Twitter is mostly pointless also, too much is too random. If it were more meaningful then this social media would have some more potential.
ReplyDeleteI agree. People should just call you if they want to let you know what's going on, rather than Tweet at you. I think talking to people is a more effective way of communicating, and agree that a lot of messages get miscommunicated via Twitter.
ReplyDeletethat is a great way to "get this ball rolling". i guess it's true what they say about smart minds thinking alike ;-)
